About

Hello! I'm J'Nayle Harkey, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Texas. I'm passionate about helping people better understand themselves, embrace their strengths, and build lives that align with who they truly are. I believe every person deserves to feel seen, understood, and accepted without judgment, and I strive to create a therapy space where clients can show up as their authentic selves.

My professional background includes community mental health, outpatient therapy, and clinical leadership, where I've had the privilege of supporting adolescents and adults with a wide range of life experiences and mental health concerns. These experiences have reinforced my belief that therapy is most effective when it is collaborative, individualized, and rooted in curiosity rather than assumptions.

I have a special interest in working with autistic and other neurodivergent adults, including those who are newly diagnosed or exploring what neurodiversity means for them. I understand that many people have spent years feeling misunderstood, masking parts of themselves, or wondering why life has felt more difficult than it seems for others. My goal is to provide a neurodiversity-affirming environment where clients feel safe exploring their identity, relationships, emotions, and personal goals while developing practical strategies that support the life they want to live.

Whether you're navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, or learning more about yourself through an autism diagnosis, I'm honored to walk alongside you with compassion, respect, and genuine curiosity.

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I've always been drawn to understanding people beyond the surface. Throughout my career, I've met many individuals who spent years feeling misunderstood, overlooked, or believing there was something "wrong" with them because the world wasn't designed for the way they think, communicate, or experience life. When I began learning more about autism and neurodiversity, I realized how many people had been navigating life without having the language or support to understand themselves.

That realization inspired me to deepen my knowledge and provide a therapeutic space where autistic and neurodivergent clients feel genuinely accepted rather than pressured to fit into someone else's expectations. I believe therapy should help people understand themselves, recognize their strengths, and build a life that works for them—not encourage them to hide who they are.

It is incredibly meaningful to witness the relief and self-compassion that often emerge when someone realizes they don't need to be "fixed." They deserve to be understood, supported, and empowered. Being part of that journey is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work, and it's what continues to motivate me every day.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I believe every person brings unique strengths, perspectives, and abilities into the therapy room. Rather than focusing on "fixing" challenges, I work collaboratively with clients to identify what already works well, build on their existing strengths, and develop strategies that support their goals and values. My approach is rooted in curiosity, compassion, and respect, recognizing that there is no one "right" way to think, communicate, or experience the world.

I strive to create an environment where clients feel safe to unmask, explore their identity, and develop greater self-understanding without fear of judgment. Together, we'll celebrate progress, navigate obstacles, and find practical tools that honor your individual needs instead of trying to fit you into someone else's expectations.

As a Black woman, I also understand the importance of culturally responsive care and recognize that identity—including race, culture, gender, sexuality, and neurodiversity—can shape how we experience the world and access support. I am committed to creating an inclusive, affirming space where every client feels respected, valued, and empowered to define success on their own terms.
