About
Hi there. My name is Jim Gibb and I live in Peoria Illinois, but I am also licensed in Oregon. It was Irvin Yalom who said something to the effect that "psychotherapy is like a dress rehearsal for life". With this said, it is my intention to not only offer you support in therapy but to also help you generalize the skills you learn in therapy and apply them in your outside life and relationships. I enjoy working with neurodivergent clients, highly intelligent adults and teens who have a difficult time adjusting and adapting socially. I have a degree in mental health counseling and in philosophy. I enjoy offering philosophical interventions and insights when applicable.
For quite some time I have had a passion for working with neurodivergent people, even before I realized I was a neurodivergent person myself. I very much enjoy having people feeling understood and validated. Often times, it is my belief that neurodivergent and autistic individuals are misunderstood, and if I could do something to remedy this, then that is very meaningful to me.
By natural tendency is to meet individuals where they are at and not force any sort of techniques or interventions that could be counterproductive and non-beneficial. I very much enjoy helping individuals realize their strengths and potential. I like to gently encourage individuals to slowly take themselves out of their comfort zone, an experiment with new ways of being. But this is also firmly rooted in meeting clients where they are at.
