About

Hello and Welcome! I am Dr. Jessica Ulmer, and I am excited to help you on your journey toward self-discovery. I am a licensed psychologist in California, and I am very passionate about empowering individuals by providing clarity and insight through evidence-based assessment. As a licensed psychologist, I have been providing therapy and assessment services throughout the past nine years across various settings. I especially enjoy helping others learn about their individual strengths and through psychological assessments. Psychological assessments are a powerful tool in understanding oneself and I am honored to be able to provide you with the answers you need. The assessment process is a very personal and vulnerable experience, but I am here to ensure you have a positive experience!

Education & Licensure

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

Through my work as a psychologist, I have seen how powerful it is for individuals to be affirmed in their neurodivergent identity. Many of the individuals I have worked with are left feeling confused and misunderstood trying to navigate the world, feeling as if there is something “wrong” or having their experiences blamed on poor mental health functioning. In reality, their brain is navigating a world not tailored to their individual differences. I want to be able to support individuals in having an affirming experience, where they can celebrate their strengths and understand how to navigate the world in ways that support their uniqueness.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

Although many times individuals are seeking assessments due to challenges they may be facing, I believe it is very important to understand the strengths of an individual, both during and after the assessment process. I ask questions aimed at understanding the qualities and parts of you that contribute to your resilience, uniqueness and life successes. Although I help to understand the challenges and “symptoms,” you may be experiencing, I frame these in a way that highlights your inherent differences rather than pathologizing your experience. I ensure that I provide a welcoming and nonjudgmental atmosphere, affirming all identities and encompassed in culturally responsive care. Overall, my goal is to provide a positive atmosphere to help make this vulnerable experience an uplifting encounter.
