About

I’m Dr. Jennifer J. Rose, PhD, a licensed clinical psychologist and Nationally Certified School Psychologist with more than 15 years of experience in psychological assessment, therapy, consultation, and clinical supervision. I have worked with adults and adolescents across educational, clinical, correctional, and community-based settings. I strive to create an environment in which clients feel respected, understood, and comfortable being themselves.

My school psychology training provides a specialized foundation for assessing developmental disorders such as autism. This training emphasizes human development, learning, cognition, behavior, social-emotional functioning, and the ways individuals function across different settings. It also includes integrating information from multiple sources, distinguishing developmental differences from other psychological conditions, and considering how a person’s environment may influence their presentation.

This developmental perspective is particularly valuable when evaluating adults because autism begins early in life, even when it is not recognized until much later. My training helps me consider a client’s developmental history, patterns of functioning over time, compensatory strategies, masking, and the possible overlap between autism and conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, and trauma-related disorders.

Education & Licensure
PhD in School Psychology from Loyola University Chicago; Master’s degree in Teaching and Learning from DePaul University Chicago; Master's degree in Educational Psychology from Loyola University Chicago; Bachelor's degree in Communication Studies from Northwestern University. I am licensed in Illinois and Iowa.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I was drawn to working with autistic adults because many people reach adulthood without having their experiences fully recognized or understood. Some have spent years feeling different, masking aspects of themselves, or receiving explanations that did not adequately capture their strengths and challenges. I value the opportunity to help clients develop a clearer understanding of themselves and to provide an assessment experience that feels validating, respectful, and useful.

My background in school psychology has given me a strong appreciation for the importance of identifying developmental patterns and understanding how they can affect learning, relationships, work, emotional well-being, and daily life. It is especially meaningful to help adults find language for their experiences and identify supports that can improve their quality of life.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I approach each client as a whole person rather than as a diagnosis or collection of symptoms. I take time to understand the client’s individual experiences, identities, relationships, values, abilities, and goals. I recognize that autism can present differently across individuals and that many adults have developed sophisticated ways of adapting or masking that may make their autistic traits less immediately apparent.

Throughout the assessment process, I use collaborative, respectful, and nonjudgmental language. I recognize the client’s strengths while also acknowledging areas in which additional support may be helpful. My goal is for clients to leave the assessment process with greater self-understanding, practical recommendations, and a more compassionate view of how their minds work.
