About
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re taking this step. I’m Dr. Jennifer Benger (she/her), a licensed psychologist and proud Massachusetts native with 25 years of experience. I’ve worked with children, teens, and adults across outpatient, residential, hospital, and private practice settings, and that range has taught me that no two people experience the world the same way. Real understanding comes from taking the time to understand the whole person, not just a list of symptoms.Whether I’m working with a university professor or someone navigating homelessness and unemployment, I believe everyone deserves equal access to quality mental health care, and everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and understood.Reaching out for an evaluation takes courage. It can feel both scary and exciting: scary because it means looking closely at yourself and being vulnerable about how you’re struggling, and exciting because it can bring answers you may have wanted for a long time. I’ve spent several years conducting evaluations via telehealth, and I aim to create a comfortable, collaborative space where you can get curious about yourself, right from your own home.Outside of work, you’ll find me with my dogs, in my garden, exploring New England, and happily embracing life as a proud introvert.
This work is personal for me. I have immediate family members who are autistic, and I’ve seen how much it matters when someone is truly understood, both by others and by themselves. I’m especially passionate about supporting adults who have been overlooked: women, people who were seen as “doing fine,” accomplished professionals, and anyone who has masked successfully for years and is now simply exhausted. I also welcome LGBTQIA+ clients and have a special interest in working with transgender and gender-diverse adults. An affirming evaluation can be a meaningful step toward living your best life, and I’d be honored to be part of that.
A strengths-based philosophy is at the heart of everything I do. I believe we’re all lifelong learners, and I deeply admire people who choose to explore who they are and advocate for what they need. You are the expert on your own life. My role is to listen carefully, bring curiosity instead of judgment, and help put your experiences into words and context. An evaluation is about more than a diagnosis. It’s a chance to recognize your strengths, make sense of past challenges, and leave with practical recommendations that fit you. Drawing on my background in special education, I especially enjoy helping people identify accommodations at school and work that allow them to thrive. Whatever the outcome, I hope you’ll leave feeling heard, respected, and more confident in who you are.
