About

Hi! Nice to meet you. I'm Jared Ramos, a licensed psychologist based in Virginia. I love getting to know and helping people. I became a psychologist because I have a deep love for people and want to help them live their best lives. I believe in creating spaces in which people feel safe to explore themselves and question their underlying assumptions--about life, others, and themselves. My goal is to walk alongside you on your journey, help you understand and validate yourself, and nurture and encourage the strengths that have been inside you all along.

Education & Licensure
PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers GSAPP in New Jersey; Masters in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers GSAPP in New Jersey; Bachelors of the Arts in Psychology from Stony Brook University
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I want to specialize in working with autistic adults for many reasons. I currently evaluate children for autism, and provide the diagnosis in order to help them receive appropriate services. I have worked in many settings over the years, and I have seen all sorts of treatment. I want to be a part of better care and help for others--making sure people better understand themselves; are more compassionate toward themselves; can grieve their pasts; and take ownership of their own stories. And much more. My work with people with autism has inspired me to be a force for good in the world and their community.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

My approach is comprehensive. I begin by understanding how the person sitting across from me understands themselves, the world, and their story. I learn about their strengths and their struggles and put them into the context of their life story. Everyone has their own unique strengths, and it's so important to learn how and why those strengths came to be. Liberating strengths born from trauma can be so healing, and I believe this contextual and strengths based approach is key to taking ownership of our lives. While we can't change what happened, we *can* change what we do because of it!
