Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My decision to work with autistic and neurodivergent adults through Prosper Health is both a professional commitment and a deeply personal calling. Throughout my career as a licensed clinical professional counselor, therapist, clinical supervisor, and behavioral health leader, I have dedicated myself to helping individuals overcome life's challenges, recognize their strengths, develop emotional resilience, and experience meaningful personal growth. With more than two decades of experience in behavioral health, including my work as a clinical therapist and CEO of North Star Clinical Therapy, I have developed a strong appreciation for individualized treatment, compassionate care, and the importance of meeting people where they are in life. I believe that every individual has unique abilities, experiences, and perspectives that deserve to be respected, understood, and valued. What makes this opportunity especially meaningful to me is my own lived experience as a person who is blind and visually impaired. My personal journey has given me a unique perspective on navigating a world that does not always recognize, understand, or accommodate individual differences. I understand the importance of accessibility, self-advocacy, resilience, independence, and having opportunities to be recognized for one's abilities rather than defined by perceived limitations.Although blindness and autism are different experiences, I believe there can be meaningful connections in the shared desire to be understood, accepted, respected, and empowered to live authentically. My own experiences have strengthened my compassion for individuals who may encounter misunderstanding, social barriers, or expectations that do not fully reflect who they are. These experiences have shaped my therapeutic philosophy: Our differences do not diminish our value, our potential, or our capacity to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.I chose to join Prosper Health because I believe in providing a safe, affirming, and supportive therapeutic environment where autistic and neurodivergent adults can explore their experiences without judgment, strengthen their emotional well-being, build confidence, navigate relationships, and pursue goals that are personally meaningful to them.My purpose is not to change who someone is, but to help individuals better understand themselves, embrace their strengths, develop practical coping strategies, and create positive change on their own terms.Ultimately, I view therapy as a partnership built on trust, empathy, collaboration, and mutual respect. I am grateful for the opportunity to combine my professional experience with my personal perspective to support autistic and neurodivergent adults in discovering greater self-acceptance, personal empowerment, and fulfillment.I believe that everyone deserves not only to be seen and heard, but to be understood, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

My therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that every individual possesses unique strengths, abilities, and the capacity for personal growth and positive change. I strive to create a supportive, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, respected, and empowered to embrace their authentic selves.Rather than defining individuals by their challenges, limitations, or adversity, I use a strengths-based, person-centered, and resilience-focused approach that emphasizes identifying existing abilities, recognizing personal accomplishments, building confidence, and developing practical strategies for navigating life's experiences.I believe resilience is not simply about overcoming difficulties, but also about understanding ourselves, recognizing our capacity to adapt, accessing meaningful support, and discovering new opportunities for growth. My role as a therapist is to help clients identify the strengths they already possess while developing additional tools to support emotional well-being, healthy relationships, self-advocacy, and greater independence. When working with autistic and neurodivergent adults, I recognize that each person's experiences, perspectives, and needs are unique. My goal is not to change who someone is or encourage them to conform to others' expectations, but to provide an affirming therapeutic partnership that respects individual differences, celebrates personal strengths, and supports goals that are meaningful to each client.Through collaboration, encouragement, practical skill development, and thoughtful exploration, I help clients build upon what is already working in their lives while addressing areas where they desire additional support.Ultimately, my philosophy is simple: Therapy should not focus solely on what individuals have experienced or the challenges they face, but also on who they are, the strengths they possess, and the possibilities that lie ahead. My commitment is to help each client move forward with greater self-awareness, confidence, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose, while recognizing that personal growth is an individual journey rather than a single definition of success.
