About
Hello, and welcome! My name is Gina Porter, and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and with over 25 years of experience in behavioral health. I am licensed to provide clinical services in Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals facing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and life challenges. My experience includes individual therapy, psychiatric care, substance use treatment, crisis intervention, and clinical leadership. I believe that everyone deserves to feel heard, respected, and accepted for who they are. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized. I strive to create a comfortable, judgment-free environment where clients can explore their experiences, recognize their strengths, and work toward meaningful changes in their lives.
My interest in working with autistic individuals comes from my belief that people should never have to change who they are simply to meet the expectations of others. Throughout my career, I have seen how misunderstandings, judgments, and unrealistic expectations can negatively affect a person's self-esteem, relationships, and emotional well-being. I recognize that individuals may experience the world differently, and I believe those differences deserve understanding and respect rather than criticism or attempts to make someone fit a particular mold. My goal is to provide a supportive environment where clients can develop greater self-understanding, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and create lives that feel authentic and fulfilling.
I believe effective therapy begins with understanding the individual rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis. Every client brings a unique combination of experiences, abilities, challenges, and personal strengths to therapy. My approach is collaborative, flexible, and grounded in respect for neurodiversity. I take time to understand how each person experiences and processes the world, communicates, manages emotions, and navigates relationships and daily responsibilities. I draw from evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused interventions, adapting these approaches to each client's preferences and needs. I recognize the importance of respecting communication differences, sensory needs, personal boundaries, and individual ways of thinking. Above all, I want clients to feel comfortable being themselves in therapy. I believe meaningful progress occurs when individuals feel accepted, empowered, and actively involved in determining their own goals.
