About

Hello and welcome! I'm Dr. Erin Carpenter, a licensed psychologist in California and New York, based in the Bay Area. Reaching out for an assessment often comes after a long stretch of wondering, and I don't take that lightly. My hope is that this feels like the start of a thoughtful self-discovery process, where you feel comfortable asking questions, sharing openly, and coming away with a fuller understanding of yourself.

Education & Licensure
PsyD in Clinical Psychology from University of San Francisco; Masters in Clinical Psychology from University of San Francisco; Bachelors in Psychology and Communication from University of California, Santa Barbara
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

What draws me to this work is helping people understand themselves more fully, through a neurodiversity-affirming lens. I'm continually inspired by the perspectives, creativity, and resilience of the autistic adults I work with, and I love that an assessment can turn years of wondering into real clarity. My goal is for our work to feel like teamwork, where your insight into your own life matters as much as anything I bring.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

My aim is for the assessment itself to feel therapeutic, not just informative. I work to create an affirming space that honors all parts of your identity and lived experience, and I approach our time together with curiosity and care. Together we'll build a picture of how your mind works, including the strengths that have carried you this far, so that whatever comes next is grounded in who you actually are. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to listen closely and help that expertise come into focus.
