About

Greetings! My name is Erin and I currently live in Minnesota where I am licensed as a clinical counselor. I am a neurodivergent mental health counselor who wants to provide a safe, affirming space for all styles of neuro-divergency and supporting persons. I believe strongly in validating who you are, your experience, and what you want to work towards. I am easy-going and flexible. I can be direct, when necessary, but I approach topics as a discussion to explore. Emotional safety in session is my highest priority, and I will invite you to set boundaries with me because empowerment is essential.

Education & Licensure
Currently enrolled in Walden University PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision; Masters in Counselor Education: Community Counseling from Winona State University; Bachelors in Psychology from Winona State University
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I grew up with one sibling, a younger brother who was severely autistic. I didn't know I had ADHD until the last year of my master's degree. It is a daily struggle to live in a world that is dominated by neurotypical brains who just 'get it'.  I want to help others accept themselves, be who they are, and view their unique characteristics as superpowers. The most memorable compliment I ever received was a young client telling me I was "weird." I said thank you. She was confused because it was supposed to be an insult; however, I told her I like being different. I want others to experience that as well.  I have struggled throughout my life, even now, but I have been able to apply my education into my experiences. I have 17 years of experience counseling and watching others grow. I can't wait to see you grow as well!

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

My approach is modeling radical acceptance and being a source of validation in what you experience, your emotions and perceptions. I also respect where you are in your journey of growth. For example, when I assign "homework" it's ok if it doesn't get done! We talk about it if you complete, and we talk about it if you don't. Either way it's your journey and I am a guide rather than a director. You get to be a human and I support that.  Also, you have strengths whether you know it or not! My neurodivergent superpowers are finding patterns in human behavior and emotions. I will help you find your superpowers, aka. strengths, and find ways to harness them.
