About

Hello and welcome! Thank you for being here, and I look forward to working with you. I'm Dr. Eric Samuels, a clinical psychologist based in the San Francisco Bay Area and licensed in California and New York. I am passionate about supporting individuals on their journey toward greater understanding of themselves, which can bring about improved mental health and wellness. If we work together, you will see that I strive to create a safe and compassionate space where you will feel heard, valued, and understood. I believe that you and I having a warm, empathic connection is required for meaningful progress, but you will also find me to be straightforward and unafraid to challenge you. I look forward to connecting and working with you.

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My motivation for providing diagnostic evaluations to assess for autism stems from a deep respect for neurodiversity and a genuine passion for creating a space where you have the opportunity to feel valued, understood, and empowered. I am inspired by the incredible strengths, creativity, and resilience that clients who are neurodiverse possess. Through compassionate and thorough diagnostic assessments, I will strive to honor your unique experiences and give you clarity that can be both validating and empowering. If we work together, I will guide you through the assessment process in a way that feels supportive and collaborative, ensuring that you feel understood and respected throughout the process.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I prioritize an affirming and strengths-based approach in all aspects of my work, including my diagnostic assessments, to ensure that you feel seen, valued, and empowered. I view you as the expert on your experience, so I will intentionally make space for you to share your observations, questions, and insights. Rather than focusing on what is “missing” or “impaired,” I will work to understand how your neurodivergent traits have shaped the ways you think, relate, cope, and succeed. I believe that you possess unique strengths and abilities that you can harness to overcome challenges and engage in self-discovery. Through active listening and a deep validation of your experiences, I strive to create a safe and nurturing space where you can express yourself authentically, become more-compassionate towards yourself, and gain a deeper understanding of who you are. Together, we can work toward uncovering your strengths, learning how you can advocate for your needs, and building a foundation for your personal growth and empowerment.
