About

Hi there! My name is Dr. Eric Cotugno and I am a PA Licensed Psychologist. I also have Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology via PSYPACT, which allows me to meet virtually with individuals in participating PSYPACT states throughout the US. As a Licensed Psychologist for the past 15+ years, I have had the privilege of working with diverse individuals and families from all walks of life. In my clinical work, I aim to facilitate a person’s understanding and acceptance of themselves in furtherance of their overall health and wellbeing.

Education & Licensure
PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University/Washington DC (APA Accredited); MA in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University/Washington DC (APA Accredited); BA in Psychology from Penn State University, University Park, PA
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

It’s been my view that although the allied mental health fields have done well to pursue early identification and intervention for neurodiverse children within the past 20+ years, there seem to be many neurodiverse adults from previous generations who have fallen through the cracks. It has been my experience that in the absence of accurate self-knowledge, a person can develop unhelpful or hurtful ideas and beliefs about themselves and their place in the world - an experience that seems to resonate with the un-recognized neurodiverse adults with whom I have worked. In my personal and professional life, I have seen how accurate assessment of neurodiversity in adulthood can help neurodiverse individuals become more accepting and caring of themselves, feel more understood by their family and friends, and have a sense of belonging in the world. I consider it a privilege to be able to help adults with un-recognized neurodiversity on the path to self-acceptance and belonging.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

In my clinical work, I aim to create an accepting, non-judgmental space in which individuals feel safe to share themselves authentically. I listen actively to try to understand the experiences, beliefs, and concerns of individuals seeking care. Also, I aim to emphasize the strengths of every individual and how individuals may use those strengths to pursue their goals and navigate their personal challenges.
