About

Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. Em Goodman, a licensed psychologist in California. I’m passionate about helping people gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the unique ways they experience the world. I believe many adults spend years feeling different or misunderstood without fully understanding why. My goal is to create a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, respected, and comfortable being yourself. I approach my work with empathy, curiosity, and humor, and I look forward to getting to know you and your individual story.

Education & Licensure
PsyD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute; MA in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles; BA in Liberal Studies from Antioch University Los Angeles.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I was drawn to working with autistic and neurodivergent adults because I know how meaningful it can be to finally have an explanation for experiences that may have felt confusing or isolating for years. Many adults have spent much of their lives wondering why they think, feel, communicate, or experience the world differently. I want the assessment process to offer you more than a diagnosis or a label. My hope is that it provides clarity, validation, and a deeper understanding of yourself. I want you to leave the process feeling heard, recognizing your strengths, and having language that helps you better understand and honor the way you experience the world.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I bring an affirming and strengths-based approach to my work by focusing on who you are as a whole person, not simply on areas that may feel challenging. I want to understand your individual experiences, perspectives, and strengths without making assumptions about what those experiences mean for you. I approach our work with curiosity, compassion, and respect, and I will adapt the process when needed so that you feel comfortable and understood. My goal is to help you recognize and build upon your strengths while gaining a greater appreciation for the unique ways you think, communicate, connect with others, and experience the world.
