About
Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Dr. Denise Thompson, and I am a licensed psychologist based in Winter Springs, Florida, and licensed to practice in Florida. Originally from the beautiful island of Jamaica, I bring my vibrant Afro-Caribbean heritage, warmth, and deep lived experience into my practice. As a clinician, I believe in creating a safe, compassionate, and collaborative space where you feel truly heard and understood. My goal is to partner with you to uncover your natural resilience and navigate life's challenges, ensuring you receive care that honors your unique identity and background.
My decision to specialize in working with autistic and neurodivergent adults is deeply personal. Beyond my professional training as a doctor of psychology, I am a mother of three adult children and a proud grandmother of three rambunctious boys—including a wonderful grandson who is neurodivergent. Watching him learn, grow, and blossom into his unique, most amazing self is one of the greatest joys of my life. I am deeply passionate about helping him understand exactly who he is as a neurodivergent male living in a neurotypical world. This same love, dedication, and respect for neurodiversity drive my work with my clients. I chose this path to provide a space where you can unmask, feel genuinely understood, and be celebrated for exactly who you are.
I bring an affirming, strengths-based approach to our sessions by shifting the focus away from deficits and instead looking at what makes your unique brain thrive. Drawing from my clinical background and my personal experiences as an Afro-Caribbean woman, mother, and grandmother, I view therapy as a partnership rooted in deep compassion. Together, we will identify your innate talents and internal resources, using them as practical tools to navigate a world that wasn't always built for you. I actively listen to and validate your lived experiences, ensuring our space is entirely free of judgment as we work toward building a life where you can truly realize your full potential.
