About

Hi! My name is Daria Barksdale, and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in NC.  I've been a counselor for 8 years. I've had the honor to work with many different populations from a variety of backgrounds and settings. I've worked in a crisis center, the school system, with the Department of Social Services, as well as with private practices.I have always had a passion for guiding others and helping to uncover the answers that are already within. I believe in a creative, nonjudgmental, and holistic approach to help tailor to your needs. I primarily utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, positive psychology, EMDR, and solution-focused therapy. You will gain more insight about yourself and your barriers to help increase awareness. We will explore who you are from a holistic perspective to aid in your own healing journey. You will also learn about different coping strategies and techniques to help you manage your symptoms and improve your lifestyle.

Education & Licensure
MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University; Bachelors in Psychology from East Carolina University
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My interest in working with autistic and neurodivergent clients grew from my experience working with people across many different settings and recognizing how often neurodivergent individuals were misunderstood, overlooked, or expected to fit into systems that were not designed with them in mind. I found myself drawn to helping clients better understand themselves, embrace their unique strengths, and navigate challenges without feeling pressured to change who they are.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

My holistic and strengths-based approach aligns well with neurodiversity-affirming care. Rather than focusing on "fixing" a person, I work collaboratively with clients to understand their challenges, recognize their strengths, and support them in creating a life that feels meaningful and sustainable. It is incredibly rewarding to witness clients gain confidence, self-understanding, and the tools they need to thrive as their authentic selves.
