About
Salutations! I am Dr. Danielle Higuera, a licensed clinical psychologist in California, and I am here to help you seek clarity on your journey of self-discovery.
It can be exhausting trying to navigate life in a world that might feel like it was not built for you. You may have spent years masking, attempting to find an explanation that fits your experience, wondering why it seems so simple for others, and feeling dismissed by others who attempt to explain away your unique experience through a reductive and misinformed perspective (e.g., “You’re just anxious”).
My goal is to help you cut through the guesswork and lingering questions to uncover your truth and honor your wonderful authentic self. During your evaluation, we will collaboratively explore your strengths and lived experiences through a modern, expansive, and neurodiversity-affirming framework that looks beyond outdated stereotypes.
Come as you are, and let us dive into this leg of your journey together!
My motivation for working with neurodivergent adults stems from knowing how exhausting and isolating it can be to question your own reality when your internal experience does not align with what others see, expect, or understand. It is painful to watch people suffer in states of quiet confusion—trying their absolute best, only to feel like the world is coming down on them anyway. When the constant message you receive is to "try harder" in the face of sensory overload, burnout, or daily functioning struggles, unearned shame and anxiety take root, and the cycle perpetuates. I am driven to help people break that cycle, release self-doubt, and step into an affirming framework that validates their humanity and authenticity. I believe the world is a better place when people are free to truly know themselves and be who they are—it is an honor to walk alongside others as they embrace self-knowledge and self-acceptance.
Your characteristics and processing style are not deficits that need to be “fixed,” nor should they be pathologized; they may differ from what is considered “typical” but are valid, meaningful, and deeply human. Rather than focusing solely on challenges, my approach is rooted in compassion, affirmation, and an active commitment to supporting you as you realize your full potential by building upon your individual strengths. By understanding your mind without judgment, we can move past the weight of unsteadying past experiences and support you as you embrace your authentic self.
