About
Hello and welcome! I’m Dr. Cruz Tovar, a licensed clinical psychologist with experience in psychological assessment, diagnostic clarification, and individual therapy. I’ve had the opportunity to work with people from many different backgrounds and life experiences, and I value taking the time to understand each person as an individual.
I approach assessment with curiosity, compassion, and the understanding that you are much more than a diagnosis or test score. My goal is to create a comfortable and collaborative environment where you feel heard and can openly share your experiences. I believe a thoughtful evaluation can provide more than a diagnosis—it can help you better understand your experiences, recognize your strengths, and gain greater clarity about yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to understanding what makes each person unique and helping people make sense of experiences that may have been difficult to understand or explain. This is especially meaningful when working with autistic and neurodivergent adults, many of whom have spent years adapting to the expectations around them without having a clear understanding of why they may experience the world differently.
What I find most rewarding about this work is the opportunity to listen to your story, understand the full picture, and help provide clarity. I value looking beyond symptoms or labels and recognizing the strengths, experiences, culture, and individual differences that make you who you are. My hope is that the evaluation process gives you not only answers, but also a greater understanding and acceptance of yourself and the way you experience the world.
My approach is grounded in the belief that people are more than a diagnosis or a set of challenges. I work to understand each person’s unique experiences, strengths, values, and goals while creating a space where they feel respected, understood, and supported. I take a collaborative and strengths-based approach, helping individuals recognize the abilities and resilience they already possess while developing new strategies for growth. I also recognize that culture, family, identity, and lived experiences can shape how people understand themselves and navigate the world, and I strive to incorporate these perspectives thoughtfully throughout the evaluation process.
