About

Hello and thank you for reaching out about my helping you with emotional and mental health services from an experienced Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I currently live in Western NY, and have private practice locations in NY and in NJ (both states in which I am licensed).

‍

The focus of my work is on cognitive-behavioral health, generally, and particularly as it applies to helping support people with trauma experiences, ADHD challenges, and a specialization in autism supports. Helping ensure greater well-being on the part of the folks I work with is a focus, as well as using decades of psych-education experience to help with improved confidence and self-understanding. What I feel is most important as a clinician is fostering a comfortable and safe place where you feel heard and understood, and making your support services individualized to you and your experiences.

Education & Licensure
PhD in Clinical Psychology (Licensed in NY, NJ) and MS in Psychology and Applied Psychology from Walden University, Minneapolis MN; Master's in Philosophy/Medical Ethics and Bachelors in Psychology and Philosophy from the University at Buffalo, Amherst NY.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My early work in the psychology field focused on children and adults who had developmental disabilities and related support needs. I have worked with children and adolescents, and adults who experience autism for decades, in many settings (residential services, clinical settings, and in-home outreach supports) and has always been a large part of my psychology practice. The strengths-based, cognitive behavior supports approach has always been my preferred service, as it combines self-understanding, self confidence, and regular supports for having an active and successful life.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

Psychological supports are most effective when they focus on making the treatment environment one that builds on one's positive sense of Self, stressing your strengths and recognizing the positive qualities that brings you to the process of getting effective supports. This is particularly true when working with adults who present with autism-related support needs, as one's strengths and self-affirming tendencies are often not in the forefront when it comes to self understanding or social/vocational experiences. To address that historical experience it is my job to actively listen to the the thoughts and feelings of individuals I work with so that feel understood and validated.
