About

I’m Dr. Cassidy Buckelew, a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in Illinois and virtually across 40+ PSYPACT states. I specialize in adult autism assessments with a particular focus on providing affirming care for neurodivergent women and LGBTQIA+ clients. Many of the folks I see in my practice are college students and young professionals who are seeking to better understand their thinking style, emotions, and sensory experiences. We work together to uncover their strengths and sticky points, collaborate on achievable, relevant goals, and develop strategies that help them move through the world with greater confidence and self-understanding.

Education & Licensure
Psy.D in Clinical Psychology from Adler University, Chicago; Bachelors in Applied Psychology from the University of Michigan, Flint
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I’m excited to join the team at Prosper Health in offering adult autism assessments because I believe that accurate diagnosis is an important early step in self-discovery, acceptance, and growth. I know from personal experience that it can be hard navigating life feeling that you’re different than other people, but not being exactly sure as to why. Providing accessible autism assessments feels like a gratifying way to contribute my skills as a neurodivergent psychologist, and doing so with an affirming, de-stigmatizing approach sparks pride in the support I can offer to the neurodiverse community.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

Exploring the idea “maybe I’m autistic” can bring up any number of reactions depending on who we are and what we believe. With that in mind, I find it’s important to learn where my clients are in their self-exploration journey and what they would like to achieve by completing an autism assessment. Throughout the evaluation, I strive to make sure the testing and feedback process feels like a therapeutic conversation, and that my clients end each meeting feeling understood and supported. After sharing and processing our findings in the feedback session, I hope to leave my clients with a sense that I genuinely connected with their inner experience and offer them tailored recommendations they can use on the way toward their goals.
