About
Welcome! My name is Dr. Bonny Chang. I’m a licensed psychologist based in Washington and have authorization to practice telepsychology in PSYPACT participating states. Over the last 12 years I’ve worked in university counseling centers, community mental health clinics, and Disability Determination Services. I provide client-centered, neurodivergent-affirming assessments where we work together to understand your unique traits, strengths, and challenges. I see neurodivergence not as a deficit or a problem to be fixed, but as a natural variation in the human experience that deserves to be respected and valued. You are the expert on your inner experience, and together, we can better understand how you function best and what environments help you thrive as your authentic self.
As someone with many late-diagnosed neurodivergent loved ones, I have a lot empathy for the cost of masking, the weight of burnout, and the shame that can come from feeling different and not knowing why. It saddens me that autism has been pathologized and misunderstood for too long, and I strive to provide a compassionate space where you are seen and valued as you are. My hope is to help you foster greater understanding and compassion, particularly towards parts of yourself that have been rejected or misjudged by others.
As a second-generation Asian American and child of Taiwanese immigrants, it’s deeply important to me to provide culturally responsive care that honors your lived intersection of identities. The ways that neurodivergence is expressed and perceived can vary widely across and within groups, and I am committed to practicing cultural humility and continually learning from the autistic and neurodivergent community in all of its diversity. Through a strengths-based, affirming approach, my goal is to help you harness your inherent gifts and honor your needs so that you can thrive and not just survive. It takes so much courage to reach out for help, and I’d be honored to support you on your journey.
