About
Hello and welcome—I’m glad you’re here. My name is Blake Lancaster, and I’m a licensed psychologist based in Michigan. I specialize in the assessment of autism in adults and have extensive experience conducting comprehensive, evidence-based evaluations.Seeking an autism evaluation as an adult can bring up a range of questions—about identity, past experiences, and next steps. My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and straightforward. I focus on creating a respectful and supportive space where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences, while also providing a clear and thorough evaluation process. My goal is not just to determine whether a diagnosis fits, but to help you better understand your strengths, challenges, and how you function in the world. Whether you’re seeking clarity, validation, or guidance moving forward, I aim to provide information that is meaningful, practical, and useful in your day-to-day life.Every person’s story is unique, and I’m committed to approaching each evaluation with care, curiosity, and respect.
I was drawn to this work through years of seeing adults who had gone a long time without clear answers about themselves. Many had been misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or had learned to push through challenges without fully understanding why certain things felt harder. When people finally have the opportunity to explore whether autism fits, it can be both clarifying and validating.I value a neurodiversity-informed approach and have a deep respect for the different ways people think, process, and experience the world. My goal is not to “label,” but to help people make sense of their experiences in a way that is accurate, respectful, and useful. A thoughtful evaluation can open the door to better self-understanding, more effective strategies, and, for many, a sense of relief in finally having language for their experiences. What motivates me most is helping people leave the process with greater clarity, self-awareness, and confidence in how they move forward.
I take an affirming, strength-based approach by focusing first on how you think, process information, and interact with the world in ways that are effective and meaningful for you. Rather than viewing autism through a deficit lens, I approach it as a different neurotype—with patterns of strengths, preferences, and challenges that deserve to be understood in context.During the evaluation, I work to identify not only areas of difficulty, but also your problem-solving style, attention patterns, interests, and adaptive strategies. Many adults I work with have already developed effective ways of navigating their environments, even if those strategies haven’t been fully recognized or supported. A key part of my role is helping you name and build on those strengths.I also prioritize clear, respectful communication and aim to make the process collaborative and transparent. My goal is for you to leave the evaluation feeling better understood—not just in terms of a diagnosis, but with a more complete picture of how you function and what supports or approaches are likely to work best for you.
