About

Hi, I’m Beth. I was born in Baltimore and raised in Columbia, MD. I am independently licensed in the state of Maryland and have over 25 years of experience working with clients who are neurodivergent, autistic, and those who live alongside depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress. This is my life’s work. My goal in the therapeutic relationship is to foster a safe judgement-free serene space, so that my clients can work toward their goals, identify what troubles them, and bring healing to hurt shame and trauma. I work on creating a positive safe and supportive environment with my clients so that they can explore, learn, heal and grow from the therapeutic interaction.

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

Having access to behavioral health and psychotherapy services is not enough to make most clients make the call and get into care. How, where, and by whom the service is provided is the key to feeling safe enough to change. As a female African-American clinical social worker and veteran, I have use my innate  cultural sensitivity – an ecological and spiritual approach (looking at you as a complete person in your environment) to care, in order to provide you with the very best support, and so that you can experience relief, growth and real progress toward your goals.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I use cognitive behavioral therapy and strengths-based motivational counseling, depending on the issues being addressed. These approaches orient clients to working on goals and moving closer to wellbeing in their lives, and becoming their own "therapist" or guide to wellness. My areas of expertise include:• Psychosocial Assessment• Initial Diagnostic Impression• Referral for Psychotrophic Medication Management• Depression & Anxiety • Traumatic Stress Disorders• Veterans Issues• Personal Growth and Spirituality• Grief & Loss• Relationship Issues• Stress Management• Coming Out Process & LGBTQ Identity Issues• Self Esteem and Communication• Co-Dependency
