About
Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Asya Penzo-Shumard, and I am a licensed clinical social worker providing virtual therapy to adults in South Carolina and Hawaii. I am passionate about creating a warm, supportive space where clients feel safe, understood, and accepted as their authentic selves.
My approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in meeting you where you are. I enjoy supporting individuals navigating anxiety, stress, burnout, life transitions, relationship challenges, and emotional overwhelm. I believe therapy should feel approachable and empowering, and I strive to help clients build greater self-understanding, confidence, and practical tools for everyday life.
I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward greater balance, healing, and well-being.
I chose this path because I believe everyone deserves a space where they feel understood, accepted, and supported without needing to hide who they are. I have always been drawn to helping individuals navigate life in a way that honors their unique experiences, strengths, and challenges rather than trying to fit into unrealistic expectations.
I am passionate about working with autistic and neurodivergent clients because I value authenticity, individuality, and the different ways people experience and interact with the world. My goal is to provide a compassionate and affirming space where clients can build self-understanding, develop coping tools, strengthen relationships, and feel more confident navigating everyday life. I believe therapy should focus not only on challenges, but also on recognizing strengths and helping clients feel empowered to thrive as their authentic selves.
I bring an affirming and strengths-based approach to my work by focusing on each client as a whole person rather than defining them by challenges or diagnoses. I believe every individual has unique strengths, perspectives, and abilities that deserve to be recognized and supported. My goal is to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe being themselves and empowered to grow in ways that feel authentic and meaningful to them.
I value collaboration, active listening, and meeting clients where they are. I strive to help clients better understand themselves, build confidence in their strengths, develop practical coping tools, and navigate relationships and daily life with greater self-acceptance and balance. I believe meaningful growth happens when people feel genuinely heard, respected, and supported.
