About
Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Dr. Ashley Petersen, and I’m a licensed clinical psychologist who is passionate about helping people feel supported, understood, and empowered throughout their journey. I currently live in Chicagoland area and am licensed in Illinois. My approach is rooted in compassion, connection, and creating a space where you can feel comfortable being your authentic self. With an immense background in assessment, I bring both professional experience and a genuine desire to understand each person as an individual. My goal is to build a trusting relationship with you, recognize your unique strengths, and work together toward the changes and goals that matter most to you.I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to well-being. Your story, experiences, and needs are uniquely yours, and I’m committed to providing thoughtful, individualized care in a warm and judgment-free environment. I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you wherever you are in your journey.
My motivation for working with autistic and neurodivergent clients comes from a deep appreciation for the unique ways people experience, understand, and interact with the world. I believe that neurodiversity is an important part of human diversity, and I’m passionate about creating a space where clients feel accepted, understood, and respected for who they are.I recognize that navigating a world that isn’t always designed with neurodivergent individuals in mind can come with unique challenges. My goal is to provide compassionate, individualized support that honors each client’s strengths, needs, communication style, and personal goals rather than expecting them to fit into a particular mold.I feel privileged to work alongside neurodivergent individuals as they build greater self-understanding, confidence, and self-advocacy. Together, we can explore what works best for you, navigate challenges, celebrate your strengths, and work toward a life that feels authentic and meaningful to you.
I bring an affirming and strengths-based approach to my work by focusing first on who each person is, what they value, and the strengths they already possess. I believe that every individual has unique abilities, perspectives, and ways of experiencing the world, and my role is to help clients recognize, understand, and build upon those strengths rather than defining them by their challenges.I strive to create a compassionate and accepting space where clients feel safe to be their authentic selves. I listen without judgment, validate each person’s experiences, and work collaboratively to identify what helps them feel confident, capable, and connected. My goal is to support clients in recognizing their own potential and developing tools that align with who they are and the life they want to create. As a university professor, I have the privilege of learning alongside and teaching students from many different backgrounds, identities, and walks of life. That experience has deepened my appreciation for individual differences and reinforced my belief that there is tremendous value in seeing the world from different perspectives. I carry that same openness, curiosity, and respect into my work with clients, meeting each person where they are and supporting them in becoming more fully themselves.
