About
Hi there, I'm Dr. Ashley Azcarraga. If you're here, you've probably spent a long time figuring things out on your own, adapting to systems that weren't designed with you in mind. I'd like to help you get a clear answer, on your terms. I'm a licensed psychologist based in Southern California, licensed in California, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas, with telehealth licensure in Florida and Vermont. My background spans correctional, hospital, university, private practice, and forensic settings, and assessment has been the center of that work throughout. I also spent over two years in Tokyo, where I supported expatriate and international communities through mental health outreach and education, an experience that sharpened my attention to how much context and culture shape the way a person presents.
I don't come into an evaluation assuming where it will land. Some adults meet criteria for autism, and for many, that clarity changes how they understand years of their life. Others don't, and that answer is just as important, since it can still offer real insight into how they experience the world. What draws me to this work is the chance to give people something they can trust: an evaluation that is careful, honest, and genuinely about them, rather than a quick answer to a question someone else asked first.
I approach every evaluation as a chance to understand someone fully, not just to identify what's difficult. I want to know what has felt harder than it should, what strategies a person has built without realizing it, and what strengths have gone unnamed because no one was looking for them. I listen closely and take each person's account seriously, so the process itself feels respectful and collaborative rather than clinical or rushed. My goal is for you to leave with a clearer, more accurate understanding of yourself and practical next steps, whatever the findings turn out to be.
