About
Hello, and welcome! I'm very glad you're here. My name is Dr. Ashley Appleton, and I'm a licensed psychologist based in New Jersey. I'm passionate about helping adults gain a deeper understanding of themselves through a compassionate, affirming, and evidence-based evaluation process. I believe that every person has a unique story, and my role is to create a space where you feel comfortable sharing yours. Whether you've been questioning for years or are just beginning to explore whether autism may be part of your experience, my goal is to ensure you feel heard, respected, and supported every step of the way. I view every evaluation as an opportunity to provide clarity, validation, and meaningful insight that helps you move forward with greater confidence and self-understanding.
Throughout my career as a psychologist, I've been drawn to helping people make sense of experiences they've often carried for years without having the language to explain them. I chose to work with autistic and neurodivergent adults because I believe that understanding yourself can be incredibly empowering. Many adults have spent much of their lives feeling "different," misunderstood, or wondering why certain aspects of life have felt more challenging than they seem for others. Being part of the process of helping someone gain clarity, validation, and a deeper understanding of themselves is incredibly meaningful to me.I approach every evaluation from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective, recognizing that autism is not something to be "fixed," but rather a different way of experiencing and interacting with the world. My goal is to provide a thoughtful, respectful evaluation that highlights both strengths and challenges, helping you better understand yourself and feel confident in whatever comes next.
My approach is grounded in the belief that understanding your neurotype is about recognizing your whole self, not simply identifying challenges. Every person brings unique strengths, perspectives, and ways of thinking that deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated. During our time together, I strive to create a warm, collaborative environment where you feel safe to be yourself and share your experiences openly, without fear of judgment.I take the time to understand not only the areas where you've struggled, but also the qualities that have helped you adapt, succeed, and navigate life in your own way. My goal is for you to leave the evaluation with a greater appreciation of your strengths, a clearer understanding of your experiences, and practical insights that support your personal, professional, and relational growth. Above all, I want you to feel respected, validated, and empowered by the process.
