About

Hi! I’m so glad you’re here, and I’m truly honored to be considered as a part of your journey. My name is Dr. Arwin Cotas-Girard, and I’m a licensed clinical psychologist in California specializing in comprehensive psychological assessment. As a neurodivergent woman, I bring both clinical expertise and lived experience, especially in evaluating Autism Spectrum Disorder in girls and women, who are often overlooked. Trained in Therapeutic Assessment, I approach evaluations as collaborative and healing experiences. My work is deeply relational and I partner closely with clients and their key supports to develop a compassionate, holistic understanding of each person’s unique needs.

Education & Licensure
PsyD from The Wright Institute, Berkeley, CA; Bachelors in Psychology from San Francisco State University, CA
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

Long before graduate school, I was an ABA provider for children on the spectrum and I had an instant connection with my clients and families. I found this work to be so rewarding that working with neurodivergent clients became my passion and it motivated me to pursue my doctoral degree with a specialization in the diagnosis and treatment of autism. Over time, I realized that there was a reason why I connected so well with my neurodivergent clients and I was later diagnosed. This only fueled my own deep respect, compassion, and understanding of the challenges our community faces in receiving appropriate and timely care, especially for high masking and low support needs individuals. With my own lived experience, I hope to advocate for others and to help create a space to honor their unique strengths, resilience, and empower them live authentic lives in a world that is not built for us.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

Psychology and the traditional language used to describe neurodivergence has long been rooted in a deficit-based model, emphasizing how we differ from the neurotypical. I understand how painful it can be to receive feedback that frames one’s experiences as “not good enough” or inherently deficient. In my work, I strive to move beyond that narrative. My goal is for clients to leave the assessment process feeling seen, understood, and empowered with an accurate picture of both their strengths and challenges, and with clear, meaningful recommendations to support their growth and well-being. I am committed to creating a space and collaborative space for my clients to show up as their authentic selves.
