Intro

Hello! My name is Angela Vigna. I am a licensed psychologist in both California and Texas. Currently I run a private practice in Santa Barbara, CA treating adolescents and young adults who struggle to control their emotions, many of whom are neurodivergent. Throughout my 15 years working as a psychologist, I have had the privilege of providing care to neurodivergent clients of varying levels of social and behavioral functioning. I also have many years of assessment experience which has allowed me to see how valuable psychological diagnostic assessments can be in choosing interventions that work for identified disorders, while taking into consideration the individual's specific needs. This invaluable service will provide you with the resources you need to help you understand yourself better and the specific support that will be the best fit for you. Welcome! I'm thrilled you made your way to Prosper Health.

What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

An area of interest of mine is how often other mental health/physical struggles get overshadowed by an autism diagnosis and clients are left without support that considers their entire wellbeing. In working in some of the most underserved counties in the south, I have seen first hand how many neurodivergent people either go without any resources or they're offered a "one size fits all" program. Many families have been advised to just go about life providing as much as they can since the support is nonexistent in these rural and disenfranchised communities. When I learned of the work Prosper Health was doing to expand services for those who have none, I knew I wanted to be part of this amazing solution.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I am most passionate about ensuring any client of mine feels accepted & understood as a basis for any changes that may be necessary. I've come to learn that positive change is more likely with expressed non-judgmental acceptance of the reasons why someone must change. It's also important to me to gain an individual perception of my client that involves a curious understanding of the uniqueness each client brings along with any diagnosis they may have been given. I also value the scientific objectivity of reliable and valid evaluations done by Prosper Health to inform my reliable and valid diagnostic impressions which then allows clinicians to implement interventions that will utilize strengths and promote change. Assessment and psychological evaluation has always been a part of my work as I believe a well-informed diagnosis is so important in guiding treatment choices. My overall style is light-hearted with a somewhat goofy manner (as I've been told).  I value having a flexible mind and I like to model the openness and receptivity I feel toward my clients. However, my ultimate end goal though is to help support my clients and their families in developing a life they feel is worth living.
