About

If you've spent years feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or exhausted from trying to fit into a world that wasn't designed for the way your brain works, you're not alone—and you don't have to navigate it by yourself. I'm Angela Kalsbeek, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Wisconsin who specializes in working with autistic and ADHD clients.

Education & Licensure
Masters in Social Work from University of WI Oshkosh, Bachelors in Science from Marian University
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My passion for this work comes from both my professional experience and my personal life. Having family members with varying levels of neurodiversity has given me a deep appreciation for the diverse ways people think, communicate, and experience the world. During graduate school, I was fortunate to work with nonverbal autistic teenagers, and those experiences solidified my commitment to providing affirming, individualized care.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I practice from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective, which means I don't see autism or ADHD as something to "fix." Instead, I believe these are natural variations in human neurology, each with unique strengths and challenges. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves, embrace their authentic identity, and develop practical strategies that allow them to thrive in school, work, relationships, and everyday life.Every person is different, so therapy is never one-size-fits-all. I tailor treatment to each individual's strengths, communication style, sensory needs, interests, and goals. Depending on your needs, I incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/Tapping), psychoeducation, and expressive art.Together, we may work on emotional regulation, anxiety, executive functioning, sensory processing, self-esteem, social communication, self-advocacy, masking and burnout, life transitions, parenting support, or building healthy relationships. I also enjoy partnering with caregivers to better understand their child's unique brain and develop strategies that foster confidence, connection, and independence. My counseling style is warm, collaborative, and strengths-based. I believe meaningful growth begins with feeling safe, accepted, and truly understood. My role is to help you discover what works best for your unique brain while building on the strengths you already possess. You don't need to become someone different to live a fulfilling life. Together, we'll focus on helping you better understand yourself, build confidence, and create a life that honors who you are.
