About

Hello! My name is Dr. Angela Horng and I am a 2nd generation Taiwanese American psychologist currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. I am originally from the Bay Area, CA and am dual licensed in CA and NY. I'm passionate about reducing mental health stigma particularly for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent folk, and other marginalized populations. I am a naturally empathetic human who enjoys helping people better understand their own brains and how to lean into awareness to better function in the world we live in.

Education & Licensure
PhD in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Diversity and Community Mental Health (DCMH) from Palo Alto University, Bachelor's in Psychobiology from UCLA
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

As a kid, I oftentimes got into trouble in school for talking out-of-turn or focusing on something I wasn't supposed to be focusing on. After a particular incident, I had a teacher approach me with understanding rather than the usual punishment, and I began to learn how important it is to take time to understand and accommodate our differences rather than trying to fit everyone into a single box. I have always naturally gravitated towards neurodivergent friends and communities, and I think that our differences make us unique and life so much more interesting! One of my first jobs out of college was working with kids on the spectrum, and I also completed part of my internship at the Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques (SALT) Center at the University of Arizona, working with students with a history of developmental disabilities. While completing assessments for disadvantaged families during internship, I found it incredibly rewarding to help clients reduce internalized stigma and better understand their executive and social functioning strengths and weaknesses, while learning to accept themselves for who they are. I am confident that we can work together to help you better understand your unique brain and how we can improve your functioning and sense of self in today's complex world.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I truly believe that our unique differences are what makes life interesting. I also know how powerful it is to develop a loving and accepting internal narrative. My approach in life and as a provider is to foster this loving and accepting narrative in you as well. Therefore, I work hard to understand each client and your unique background, neuro-functioning, cultural factors, etc. My goal is to help you know yourself better and to feel more confident being yourself!
