About

Hello! I am Dr. Andrew Grego, a clinical psychologist licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. People seek out a psychological assessment for many reasons. Many people report experiences of feeling ‘othered’, or ‘different’ much of their lives, and describe patterns of difficulty fitting in, leading them to seek a better understanding of themselves. For others, they have been ‘doing the work’ of addressing mental health challenges though therapy or medications, yet feel stuck at what they see as limited progress. Some feel they just don’t even know where to begin! My goal is to guide you to a better understanding of yourself. Together, we can address how you learned to cope with various circumstances and factors outside your control as a child, how that might impact circumstances today, and explore resources or tips that support your goals. My aim is that  by taking time with you, by our last meeting, you will walk away feeling confident about the rationale for any conclusions, diagnosis, or recommendations offered in the final report. I take a collaborative approach to assessment, asking questions to carefully understand how clients see themselves, other people, and their goals. We will mutually define the problem or question together. I will ask you for your feedback. I love my job. If you are looking for help, I consider it a privilege and a joy to be able to point you in the right direction.

Education & Licensure
Ph.D in Clinical Psychology with Concentration in Neuropsychology from Nova Southeastern University; M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University; B.A in Neuroscience from Colgate University
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I have had the privilege of working with neurodivergent clients ever since I first pursued graduate training and a career in psychological/neuropsychological assessment, which included outpatient assessment work, but also, in-person, in-home family therapy supporting families with diverse needs. When I first became licensed, I was amazed to see the number of adult clients coming in asking for me to test for suspected Autism, and usually with good reasons for suspicion. I have had great joy in seeing clients feel empowered by the knowledge and information gained through as assessment that considers them as a whole person with rich, complex, and unique experiences. There is a growing and unmet need for adult autism assessments and I am honored to support the community's needs.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

Diagnoses are social constructs (hence the categories and criteria change!) and unfortunately, it is true that much of graduate training focuses on concepts like 'functional impairment', when the reality is that all people are resilient, show unique strengths and protective factors, and have the capacity to make change. Almost no one wants visit a helping professional and be given a list of problems with no solutions. I strive to take a collaborative approach throughout the assessment process, being transparent about what to expect, showing curiosity to your perspectives, and when I do offer conclusions or recommendations, they will explicitly address your strengths and how to use those strengths towards your goals. In order to create a safe space for clients to express themselves authentically, it is important that I am also authentic, which includes expressing curiosity, and telling you what I am thinking.
