About

My name is Andres Duarte, though I prefer to go by Andy. I am a licensed clinical psychologist based in Texas with a background in neuropsychological and psychological assessment across a variety of clinical settings. I have always been passionate about helping people better understand themselves, and over time, I developed a particular interest in working with adults exploring autism, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental differences.

Outside of work, I am a huge animal lover and have three dogs who keep life fun, busy, and full of personality. Animals have always been an important part of my life, and I think they have taught me a great deal about patience, connection, and the importance of creating safe and comforting environments for others. Those values naturally carry over into how I approach my work as a clinician.

As a provider, I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where people feel comfortable being themselves. I understand that many adults seeking an autism evaluation may have spent years feeling misunderstood, overlooked, or unsure why certain experiences have always felt different for them. Because of that, I believe the assessment process should feel collaborative, validating, and compassionate rather than cold or intimidating.

Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

One of the things that drew me most to this work was seeing how many autistic and neurodivergent adults spent years feeling misunderstood or wondering why certain aspects of life felt harder for them than they seemed to for others. Throughout my training and clinical experiences, I worked with many individuals who were incredibly intelligent, capable, and insightful, yet had spent much of their lives masking, struggling silently, or feeling as though they simply “did not fit.” Being able to help someone better understand themselves in a compassionate and validating way felt deeply meaningful to me.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I take a compassionate, affirming, and strength-based approach to my work. Rather than focusing only on challenges, I believe it is equally important to recognize each person’s unique strengths, resilience, insight, creativity, and individuality. My goal is to create a supportive space where clients feel comfortable being themselves and understood as whole people, not simply through the lens of a diagnosis. I strive to help individuals better understand how they experience and navigate the world while emphasizing self-compassion and personal growth.

I also bring personal understanding into this work, as I have ADHD myself. While everyone’s experiences are different, this has given me additional appreciation for some of the challenges neurodivergent individuals may face, including feeling misunderstood or trying to adapt to environments not always designed with them in mind. I hope to help clients feel validated, empowered, and more confident in their strengths and abilities.
