About

Hello! I'm Amy Donovan, a licensed psychologist in Minnesota. I'm thrilled to be be part of the journey of adults who are exploring whether they may be on the autism spectrum, often after years of wondering, questioning, or feeling a bit out of sync without clear answers. My approach is grounded in respect for your personal lived experience. Together, we will gently explore your history, strengths, and unique challenges to build a clearer picture of how you experience the world. For me, an ASD assessment is about more than a diagnosis. It's about helping you make sense of your story in a way that is meaningful, validating, and empowering.

Education & Licensure
PhD in School Psychology from University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; Bachelors in Psychology from St. Olaf College.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My path to working with neurodivergent adults grew out of many years as a school psychologist supporting young people with autism, along with extensive graduate-level assessment and testing teaching experience as an associate professor of psychology. Over time, I've come to appreciate how varied the autism spectrum really is. Undiagnosed adults with neurodivergent brains have learned to navigate a neurotypical world, often very successfully, and frequently at the expense of their own mental health. I have a deep respect for the strength and resilience that takes, and I'm passionate about helping you make sense of your own story in an affirming and compassionate way, honoring both your challenges and your uniqueness. As a parent of neurodivergent young adults, this work is also deeply personal to me, and it continually shapes the care and understanding I bring to those I support.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

My approach is grounded in deep respect for your personal lived experience. Every adult seeking ASD assessment is unique, with intersecting identities that influence your experience. I see you as a whole person, and I aim to understand not only the challenges you've faced, but the strengths and resilience you bring to your experience as a neurodivergent individual living in a neurotypical world. My goal is for you to feel heard, understood, and validated throughout the evaluation process.
