Amy Beth Treadwell
About
Welcome! I'm so glad you're here, and well done in taking this step in supporting your mental health and wellness. My name is Amy Treadwell, and I currently live in Kansas City, MO and I'm licensed in Missouri. My approach to therapy is based on respect for each person’s story, including their cultural context, inherent dignity, and unique worldview. Through calm, consistent presence, I hope to create a brave space where you can learn and practice coping skills, decrease emotional overwhelm, and begin to take manageable steps toward fulfilling life you desire. I take a holistic approach, incorporating body-based awareness and mindfulness techniques that enhance healing and foster emotional resilience.
My motivation in working with autistic adults comes from my experience working as a school-based therapist, where I encountered many teens and kids with a diagnosis of Autism or ADHD. I've learned that many adults who are on the spectrum were never diagnosed or misdiagnosed, and that sense of "aha!" and "now what?" is a pivotal place to be, one where self-discovery, re-framing past experiences, and skill building can equip someone to transcend past limitations and build a fulfilling life on their terms. I find working with adults on the spectrum to be interesting and satisfying.
I believe that every person has the capacity for hope, belovedness and belonging. However, trust can be hard when past relationships haven’t felt safe, including the relationship with ourselves. I hope to offer you a calm, consistent and courageous space to rediscover your strengths, navigate complex challenges, and harness your capacity for growth and healing.
