About

I’m glad you’re here. My name is Dr. Amira Y. Trevino (she/her), a licensed psychologist based in Utah who is passionate about embracing people in their wholeness from a relational and trauma-informed lens. I deeply value creating an environment where people can feel seen as a whole person, celebrating diversity across cultural identities. My hope is to help you feel welcome to the space as we collaboratively work together towards a shared goal. I approach assessments with care, curiosity, and humanness with the hope of creating a space where you can do the same.

Education & Licensure
Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from University of Utah; Masters in Education from University of Utah; Bachelors in Psychology from Washington State University - Vancouver.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My desire to work with autistic adults is rooted in my value of embracing how diversity lives within each of us as a unique constellation of identities, values, and experiences. As a Multiracial (Cambodian, Mexican) cis-daughter of immigrants, I witnessed first hand the barriers to accessing quality, client-centered care based on group membership. Unfortunately, many folx who are neurodivergent face similar barriers, including stigma, misunderstanding, and misdiagnoses, especially when from underdiagnosed communities (e.g., BIPOC, trans, women, immigrant/refugee). Thus, I’m passionate about using my role-power as a psychologist to support others who face similar barriers.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I view neurodiversity as a form of diversity rather than a pathology. I work to center my clients as whole people, exploring how neurodivergent traits (vs symptoms) may interact with other identities they hold, and invite them to show up as they are. Too often we may feel pressured to mask; seemingly contorting ourselves to fit into a box that society wants us to be in. I hope to help create a space of relief, where you can feel safe enough to set that mask down and show up as you are. No performance needed.
