About
Welcome! I'm Dr. Amanda Lewis-Yarbrough, a licensed and board-certified clinical psychologist serving individuals across Alabama. I am passionate about helping people navigate life's challenges through compassionate, evidence-based care while creating a safe, supportive space where they feel heard, respected, and empowered. My background includes providing psychotherapy, psychological assessments, and forensic evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of mental health concerns. I believe that every person has the capacity for growth and healing, and I am committed to partnering with my clients to help them build resilience, gain insight, and achieve meaningful, lasting change.
My passion for working with autistic and neurodivergent individuals comes from a deep commitment to helping people feel understood, valued, and empowered. Throughout my career as a clinical psychologist, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults who have often felt misunderstood or overlooked because they experience and interact with the world differently. I believe neurodiversity is a natural part of human diversity, and I strive to provide affirming, individualized care that recognizes each person's unique strengths while addressing the challenges that may impact daily functioning.
I enjoy helping clients gain a better understanding of themselves through comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based therapy, while also supporting families in recognizing and embracing their loved one's needs. My goal is to create a safe, compassionate environment where clients feel accepted without judgment and are equipped with practical strategies to thrive at home, school, work, and in their relationships.
I believe every individual has unique strengths, abilities, and perspectives that deserve to be recognized and celebrated. My approach is rooted in understanding each person's experiences, identifying what they do well, and building upon those strengths to promote confidence, resilience, and meaningful growth. Rather than viewing neurodivergence as something to be "fixed," I work collaboratively with clients to help them better understand themselves, navigate challenges, and develop strategies that support success in everyday life.
As a Black psychologist, I also understand the importance of culturally responsive and affirming care. I strive to create a space where clients feel respected, heard, and accepted for who they are. Whether I am providing therapy or conducting psychological evaluations, my goal is to help clients recognize their potential, advocate for their needs, and build on the qualities that make them unique. I am committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care that empowers individuals and families to thrive while honoring each person's identity, strengths, and lived experiences.
