About

Hello! I'm glad you're making an investment in better understanding yourself. My name is Dr. Alison Bateman (she/her). I've been licensed as a Psychologist in California for over 20 years, and I am located in the SF Bay Area. Throughout my career, I have been driven to help people better understand themselves and support them in using that information to improve their quality of life. I have been especially drawn to working with folks from marginalized identities and groups, supporting their resilience, and improving connections, communication, and coping. I would love to partner with you to help gain clarity by creating a safe and compassionate environment where you feel supported and understood.

Education & Licensure
Ph.D. and M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Palo Alto University (formerly Pacific Graduate School of Psychology) in Palo Alto, CA; B.A. in Psychology from Smith College in Northampton, MA; Predoctoral Internship at Texas Tech University; Postdoctoral Residency at Humboldt State University.
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I have numerous autistic and neurodivergent people in my life, and throughout my career have worked with many people who identify as neurodivergent. I deeply value the unique skills, strengths, and perspectives they have to offer. In addition, I have personally experienced how challenging it can be to live in a world that often overlooks one's needs, strengths, and perspective. My mission is to support people in recognizing and feeling empowered by their unique experiences, as well as better understand and access tools and skills to help them thrive and succeed.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

My goal is to ensure people feel respected, heard, and valued. Each individual carries unique experiences, perspectives, and strengths, and I find a great deal of meaning in supporting people in recognizing and valuing theirs, and helping people cope effectively in a society that is tailored to different strengths.
