Intro

Hi my name is Alisa Valente. I am a Clinical Psychologist based in Wilmington and licensed in the state of North Carolina.  I am a strong believer in evidence-based practices and making sure everyone has a safe space to tell their story.  I am excited to be a part of the Prosper team helping neurodivergent adults use their unique strengths to adapt and thrive.

What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

I have enjoyed working with a number of neurodiverse adults in my private practice over the years and have been very impressed at their ability to adapt to the challenges in their environment.  For those that have pursued testing, I have been struck by how much dagnostic clarity and treatment recommendations can be validating and empowering for those clients.  I am proud and excited to be a part of that process.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

My approach is strengths-based as I believe that neurodiversity is about identifying differences in perceiving and approaching the world versus weaknesses per se.   My goal is to help each person achieve their personal goals by using their unique abilities to adapt to challenges.  I hope to make each person feel safe and validated as they go through the diagnostic process.
