About

Hello and welcome. I'm Abbey Oxygéne, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me.I know reaching out for support can be difficult, and I believe everyone deserves a space where they feel safe, respected, and truly heard. My passion for this work comes from helping people navigate life's challenges while recognizing the strength and resilience they already carry within them. For more than 20 years, I have worked with individuals facing anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, life transitions, and other emotional challenges. My experience includes community mental health, crisis services, substance use treatment, and correctional mental health. These experiences have taught me that healing looks different for everyone, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to care.As a bilingual clinician, I provide services in both English and Haitian Creole (French Creole). I understand the importance of feeling understood and being able to express yourself comfortably in your preferred language. My goal is to meet you where you are, listen without judgment, and work alongside you as you move toward greater stability, healing, and personal growth. Whether you are facing a difficult season, struggling with past experiences, or simply looking for support, I am here to help you take the next step forward.

Education & Licensure
Associate Degree from Virginia Western Community College; Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from University of Lynchburg; Master of Arts in Human Services (Marriage and Family) from Liberty University; Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University; Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia; Certified ADHD Clinical Services Provider; Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (pending).
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My passion for working with autistic and neurodivergent individuals is both professional and personal. Throughout my career, I have worked with autistic individuals in educational, community, and behavioral health settings, and I have seen the importance of providing support that is respectful, affirming, and individualized.I also have personal experience with neurodiversity, both as a parent of a child with ADHD and through my own experiences with ADHD. These experiences have helped me better understand the strengths, challenges, and unique ways neurodivergent individuals experience the world.I know that many neurodivergent individuals have spent years feeling misunderstood, judged, or pressured to fit expectations that do not reflect who they are. My goal is to create a space where you feel accepted, heard, and supported. I take a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming approach and work collaboratively with clients to build confidence, develop practical skills, and navigate life's challenges in a way that honors their individual needs and goals.Like many people, I have also experienced significant life challenges and loss, which has deepened my empathy and reinforced my belief in the importance of compassionate, person-centered care. My hope is that you will feel supported, understood, and empowered as we work together.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I believe that every person has strengths, abilities, and qualities that deserve to be recognized and valued. My role is not to change who you are, but to help you better understand yourself, build on your strengths, and develop tools that support the life you want to live.I take a neurodiversity-affirming approach that respects each person's unique way of thinking, communicating, learning, and experiencing the world. I strive to create a safe, welcoming space where you can be yourself without fear of judgment. I believe healing and growth happen when people feel accepted, understood, and supported. As someone with ADHD and as a parent of a child with ADHD, I understand both personally and professionally that neurodivergence comes with challenges as well as many strengths. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the importance of individualized support and meeting people where they are.In our work together, I will focus on helping you identify what is working well, build confidence in your abilities, and develop practical strategies that support your goals. I believe every person has the capacity for growth, and I am committed to helping you recognize your strengths, navigate challenges, and thrive in a way that feels authentic to you.
