About

Welcome! I am glad you are taking this step. My name is Dr. Adijat Mustapha. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in New Jersey. As part of my mission for multicultural psychology and social justice, I want assessment and diagnosis to be accessible to all, especially those from diverse and marginalized communities. Comprehensive and contextual assessment is the first essential step for understanding yourself from a psychological perspective and identifying any support you may need. I work through a collaborative and empathetic lens to provide you the answers to those diagnostic questions that may have been plaguing you. I will use my years of training and work with diverse populations to assure that you feel heard and understood.

Education & Licensure
PhD in Clinical Psychology (Graduate Minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies) from the University of Kansas (Lawrence, KS); Masters in Psychology from the University of Kansas; Bachelor of Arts from Drew University (Madison, NJ) with double majors in Psychology & French
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My interest in working with autistic and neurodivergent clients grew out of a desire to provide the kind of care that many individuals have not historically received—care that is respectful, affirming, culturally responsive, and centered on strengths rather than deficits. Through my training and clinical experience, I saw how often neurodivergent adults were misdiagnosed, misunderstood, or left out of conversations about their own care. Specializing in this area allows me to support clients in gaining clarity about their identities, embracing their differences, and navigating the world in ways that feel authentic and empowering to them.  I strive to provide evaluations and therapeutic services that are collaborative, affirming, and tailored to each individual’s lived experience.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

I take an affirming, strengths-based approach by focusing on each individual’s capabilities, resilience, identities, and lived experiences. I work collaboratively and respectfully with clients to build insight into their existing strengths and use those as a foundation for growth, rather than working from deficit-based models. My goal is to help clients develop deeper self-awareness, confidence, and strategies that align with their individual goals and definitions of success.
