About

Hello! I’m Dr. Aaron Hudyma, a licensed psychologist living in the Denver, Colorado area. My goal is to help you understand yourself better so you can live your life with greater self acceptance and use that understanding to guide your decisions in ways that cultivate authentic well being. I am drawn to working with the neurodiverse community through my professional experiences in helping people with anxiety and OCD, which many neurodiverse people also experience. My approach tends to be kind, direct, and educational, which I find resonates with people who value clarity, honesty, and lifelong learning.

Education & Licensure
Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from University of Denver, M.A. in Counseling from South Dakota State University, B.A. in Psychology from Minnesota State University, Mankato
Treatment Approach
What motivated you to specialize in working with autistic adults?

My interest in working with neurodivergent adults comes from my therapeutic work where many of my clients are autistic or other forms of neurodivergent. Through this work I have been privileged to witness how traditional and stereotypical views of neurodivergence have failed to represent the wonderful variety of ways that actual neurodivergent people live and show up in the world. I find a lot of value in providing neurodivergent folks with an environment of acceptance and appreciation for just being who they are, and how they are. My hope is that by providing this kind of experience for you, you can speak authentically and genuinely about the struggles, hopes, and values that really matter to you.

How do you bring a strengths-based, affirming approach to your client work?

For me, an affirming, strengths based approach starts with seeing differences as valid and valuable parts of natural human variation, not as deficits to be corrected. I listen closely for your perspective, including the words and concepts you use to describe your own experience, and I let those guide our inquiry. I adapt to your pace, and I pay attention to how you feel about directness, humor, and literal or figurative language, so that our conversations work for you. I also believe an affirming approach means that we recognize and validate areas of genuine difficulty so that the assessment process can lead to practical and useful recommendations for how to best address those difficulties.
